+1.  The popnote command used for org-notebook should only create  a new heading if there isn't already a blank one at the place a new one would be created.
+      1)  That may require checking and updating a timestamp at the beginning of the empty heading's content as well.
+2.  The tree sidebar should be displayed, as well as the item sidebar listing entries grouped by date, similar to the alpha-org screenshots.
